I made Molly’s chocolate granola last week as a present for my mum. Unlike me, she’s a hard-wired early bird and actively enjoys breakfast. So I thought I’d make something that was a little bit luxurious but would still work well for every day.
After packing a Kilner jar to the brim, there was plently left over. So now it has become my morning treat too
How do you like to start the day? Are you a coffee-and-cigarette kind of person (Mr B.) or do you dig into something more substantial? What’s your favourite breakfast of all time?

That looks delicious… might have to try it!
I’m not a big morning brekkie person, but give me brunch at half eleven or so and I’m in heaven. Frittata, French toast, overnight casserole… just to name a few…

oo this looks gorgeous, am a cornflakes and tea person, or else a tea and toast, or if it’s Friday toast and a mocha or else if I’m being really good a low fat oragnic yogart and some berries. Am definitely a breakfast person though, especially at the weekends

You don’t want to talk to me in the morning unless I’ve had breakfast!! Normally during the week it’s granola + fruit + yoghurt and a big mug of tea. At the weekend it’s poached eggs on toast.
This recipe looks great, any excuse for chocolate in the morning sounds good to me.

That looks lovely.
I like breakfast, although it wasn’t always the way. Now, as long as I have to be up at the crack of dawn with two small hungry people, I relish breakfast. (Hubby’s not up ’til 8 so I generally eat with the kids)
Still, it’s pretty plain – Shredded Wheat bite-sized and raisins or fruit and yoghurt; plus toast. And black coffee. Quite a bit of black coffee. Then on Sundays I make a big buckwheat pancake feast for the whole family.

Hey Deb.
I was a little suspicious of the chocolate to start with but it works well – sweet but not sickly. I’ve never been a morning person, no matter how hard I try… Yep – about 11-ish, that’s when it kicks in for me too. So I’ve usually got a bag of cereal or something with me to stop my belly rumbling
Come to think of it though, they’re all fairly sweet, so maybe I need to go more savoury to tempt me into morning eating…
Hiya Rachel.
Oooh yes – weekend breakfast is an entirely different story! Sundays always seems to end up with something like pancakes or danish pastries. Hmmmmm. Daring Baker pastries maybe! Although I screwed that up by leaving the dough to defrost overnight and the yeast just went bananas – by the time I got up, it was too far gone to be usable
Hi Kate.
I’m no good in the mornings either. It’s a family thing. Except for my mum – she had to put up with three grumpy non-morning people in her kitchen for years… I once asked Mr B to wake me up and apparently ‘there was hate in your eyes!’. He’s still a little scarred, poor fella
Hey Sam.
Think that’s why my mum’s so hard-wired as a morning person – three younger sisters, a lifetime in catering and then two little screamers of her own
I love the mini shredded wheat with the raisins in them and buckwheat pancakes sound delicious! Plus a big mug of tea. I never used to get the joke when I first moved to Scotland and someone would ask ‘Would you like a tea… Jenny?’ and then start giggling. Now, of course, I know what a teajenny is
Right, that’s it! Sunday breakfast is definitely going to be pancakes!

Hi Jen,
I am not a morning person, but on the mornings I have breakfast I like porridge topped with fruit or greek yoghurt and honey or toast and tartex (a veggie yeast pate in a tube).
Your granola sounds great!

Hey Holler.
Yay! Another non-morning person
Porridge with fruit sounds good to me. I haven’t had porridge for a few months – I’m living in denial that we’re not having the worst summer ever and that I just want something cold with milk!

The sun came out for a while, when I was doing the housework and now that I am finished and ready to go out, it has started raining *sigh*.

Hi Jen, I love breakfast. But i’m always in too much of a hurry to enjoy it. It’s my mid-year resolution to get up 15 mins earlier to give myself time to enjoy breakfast. I’ve been catching up on blogs since I got back and have added about 100 recipes to my “to do” list – this is definitely one of them.

Hi again Holler.
It’s always the way
It rained as soon as I wanted to put some washing out yesterday…
Hey Maz.
That’s a good resolution – I’ll try that this week and see how I go. Hope you had a great holiday! I’ll pop over for a look-see just now

Ooh, missed this post! Well, it’s the school holidays and seeing as my youngest child can now take the dog out, feed it AND himself without a horrible accident befalling him, I try to miss mornings altogether these days. They’ve both learned that a cup of tea will sometimes persuade me out of bed to make pancakes though, so I’m never left in peace. LOVING this recipe and might have to give it a go. Ta. xx

Hey EM.
Make the most of the lie in, that’s what I say! I’m rather jealous
Try out this recipe – I promise you won’t be disappointed. It’s the business!

My favourite breakfast of all time is blueberry pancakes & maple syrup, with a couple of rashers and a couple of eggs, easy over. Mmmmmm.
OH makes wheat & dairy free pancakes with spelt four (and possibly rice flour) and rice or oat milk. Very yum.

Hi Debbie.
That sounds droolsome and fantastic
Pancakes are always good – and with all the trimmings… Americans really know how to do breakfast properly, don’t they?

Poo. I added chopped dried apricots thinking I was being really clever, but they shriveled and burnt. And I did double quantities too.

Hey EM.
Oh crap. Apricots would be great too. Think you’re supposed to add them afterwards when the mix has cooled down. I was thinking about doing that with some dried pear and making a sort-of breakfast homage to Jamie’s meringue with chocolate, pears, ginger and hazlenuts.

Hi Jen,
I’ve just made a variation of the chocolate granola. Big variation – no chocolate! It’s sugar and wheat-free & had other flakes ‘n’ stuff, but I kept the honey. If it’s good I may blog it.
Will be in US in Oct for 2 weeks. Can’t wait – all those breakfasts, mmmm.

Hey Debbiemet.
Sounds good to me! Looking forward to seeing the results
Very jealous of your US trip. Think of me when you have breakfast… (big sigh)
